Halkidiki
Halkidiki is a peninsula located south of the city of Thessaloniki. It consists of three smaller peninsulas (Kassandra, Sithonia and Athos) which seem to form a trident piercing the Aegean. Sunny, golden – covered with sand – beaches, idyllic coves, traditional villages and modern tourist resorts scattered islands, sheltered bays, pine hills plunging into the sea make up the image of modern Halkidiki. Capital of Halkidiki is Poligiros located in the geographic center, just 69 km from Thessaloniki. The movement is mainly by road and the nearest airport is “Airport Macedonia”, outside the city of Thessaloniki.
Kallithea
Kallithea, the most famous and fashionable summer resort of Chalkidiki, is located at a distance of 85 kilometres from the city of Thessaloniki. The village’s name is derived from the wonderful view visitors can enjoy from the village’s central square, looking out on the sea and the peninsula of Sithonia.
The former name of the village was “Maltepe”, derived from the refugees who arrived there from Maltepe in Asia Minor and founded the village in 1922. The village was renamed Kallithea after the end of World War II.
There are many significant archaeological finds in the area, such as the ancient temple of Ammon Zeus used for the worship of Dionysus and the Nymphs, which dates back to the 4th century B.C., and the more recent finds from the Roman and the Byzantine Era. Another sight is the little Church of Saint Panteleimonas, which dates back to the 19th century.
Kallithea has everything: perfect tourist infrastructure along with very beautiful landscapes, including spotless beaches with greenish-blue waters, sandy beaches, and verdurous pinewoods.
And for the lovers of good life and entertainment, Kallithea has a large number of shopping centres and stores, where they can find anything they wish along with an active nightlife. Some of the most famous clubs are located in the village, often hosting famous disc jockeys coming from all over the world. There are also lots of cafes and bars, and traditional tavernas, covering the whole spectrum of entertainment.
In the capital of the Municipality, Kassandria, 4 kilometres far from the village, there is a fully equipped medical centre.
